Classic Tuna Melt Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 2 5 oz cans tuna in water (drained)
  • 2 celery ribs finely diced, about 1 cup or 105g
  • ½ small red onion finely diced, about ½ cup or 80g
  • 2 dill pickle spears small diced, about ½ cup or 80g
  • cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly cracked pepper
  • 8 slices sourdough bread
  • 8 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 tablespoon butter divided, for toasting

Method
 

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the drained tuna, diced celery, red onion, pickles, mayonnaise, salt, and pepper. Stir until evenly mixed. mix
  2. Lay out the sourdough bread. Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each piece. Divide the tuna mixture between four slices of bread. Top with the remaining slices to form the sandwiches. assemble
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a medium skillet over medium heat. Place two sandwiches in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes, until golden brown. Flip the sandwiches and add another tablespoon of butter. Cook for an additional 3 minutes. finish
  4. Repeat the process with the remaining sandwiches, adding butter as needed. finish
