This budget-friendly, one-pan meal combines savory ground beef, tender cabbage, and fluffy rice for a quick and filling dish perfect for any night.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 yellow onion diced
  • ½ head green cabbage 5 cups chopped
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil for sautéing
  • ½ lb. ground beef lean or regular
  • 1 tablespoon steak seasoning or preferred beef seasoning
  • ¼ cup water to help soften the cabbage
  • 2 cups cooked rice* preferably day-old rice
  • 2 tablespoon butter adds richness
  • ½ tablespoon soy sauce adjust to taste

Method
 

  1. Add the onion and cooking oil to a large skillet and sauté over medium heat until the onions are soft. prep
  2. Add the ground beef and steak seasoning to the skillet and continue to sauté until the beef is fully cooked. If using a higher fat content beef, drain the excess fat from the skillet. prep
  3. Add the chopped cabbage and water to the skillet. Continue to sauté until the cabbage has softened to your desired level of tenderness. prep
  4. Add the cooked rice and butter to the skillet. Fold the rice and butter into the beef and cabbage until the butter has melted, everything is evenly combined, and the rice is heated through. mix
  5. Finally, season the skillet with soy sauce to taste. Start with 1 teaspoon and add more to your liking. Serve hot and enjoy! finish
