  • 12 oz Spaghetti noodles - Cooked al dente
  • 1 lb Ground beef - Or Italian sausage
  • 1 jar Pasta sauce - About 24 oz
  • 1 Onion - Diced
  • 2 Garlic cloves - Minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper - To taste
🧀 For the Cheese Layer
  • 2 cups Mozzarella cheese - Shredded
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese - Grated
  • 1 cup Ricotta cheese - Or cottage cheese
  • 4 oz Cream cheese - Softened optional, for richness
🌿 Optional Add-ins
  • ½ teaspoon Red pepper flakes - Optional for heat
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil - Optional for added flavor

Method
 

  1. Boil spaghetti until almost tender. Drain (do not rinse). Toss with olive oil and set aside.

  2. In a skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat. Add diced onion and garlic when nearly done. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Drain excess fat.

  3. Add pasta sauce to the meat mixture. Let simmer for 5–10 minutes. Taste and adjust seasoning. Remove from heat.

  4. In a greased 9x13 dish: Add half the pasta, half the meat sauce, dollops of ricotta or cottage cheese, and half the mozzarella. Repeat layers, ending with cheese on top.

  5. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes. Uncover and bake 10–15 minutes more until golden. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.
